How do I access court records?

Court Clerk (county level - each of Oklahoma's 77 counties) / Oklahoma Supreme Court / Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals (state level)
Step by Step

How to do it

  1. Identify what type of record you need: District Court (felonies, civil, domestic/family, probate), Municipal Court (city ordinances, traffic), or Oklahoma Supreme Court / Court of Criminal Appeals
  2. Search online:
  3. OKLAHOMA STATE COURTS NETWORK (OSCN): oscn.net - Oklahoma's excellent and comprehensive statewide online court records system; free public access to dockets, case summaries, and in many cases full court documents; covers District Courts, Supreme Court, Court of Criminal Appeals, and Court of Civil Appeals
  4. OSCN provides some of the best free public access to state trial court records in the nation
  5. Search by case number, party name, or judge; covers historical records as well as current cases
  6. For full case documents or certified copies: contact the Court Clerk in the district/county where the case was filed
  7. In-person access: visit the courthouse; bring photo ID and case details

County-specific variations apply

Oklahoma County (OKC), Tulsa County, Cleveland County, Canadian County, and Comanche County have the most active court systems and best in-person resources. OSCN coverage is good statewide. Marriage records are at the county COURT CLERK (the same office that issues marriage licenses); divorce records are also at the county COURT CLERK. Note: in Oklahoma, the COURT CLERK and the COUNTY CLERK are two different offices - marriage licenses and court records are at the COURT CLERK; county administrative matters (deeds, property records) are at the COUNTY CLERK.

  • Marriage records AND divorce records: both at the county COURT CLERK (not COUNTY CLERK - different offices in Oklahoma).
