How do I register to vote or check my registration?

Hawaii Office of Elections (state level) / County Elections Divisions (county level - Honolulu, Hawaii, Maui, Kauai)
Step by Step

How to do it

  1. Confirm eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen, Hawaii resident, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and not adjudicated by a court as non compos mentis (not of sound mind); felony conviction: may register and vote in Hawaii once released from incarceration (probation and parole do NOT affect voting rights)
  2. Choose your registration method:
  3. ONLINE: olvr.hawaii.gov - requires Hawaii Driver License or Hawaii State ID number and SSN; available 24/7; fastest method
  4. AUTOMATIC VOTER REGISTRATION: When applying for or renewing a Hawaii driver's license or state ID, eligible residents are automatically registered (or registration updated)
  5. BY MAIL: Download paper Voter Registration Application from elections.hawaii.gov; complete and submit to your County Elections Division - must be received by 4:30 PM on the 10th day before Election Day
  6. IN PERSON / SAME-DAY: Voter Service Centers (VSCs) open 10 business days before Election Day through Election Day - register and vote in person on the same day; no prior registration needed
  7. Receive ballot confirmation: Hawaii mails ballots to all active registered voters; monitor ballot tracking at elections.hawaii.gov
