Important state-specific details

  • CRITICAL DISTINCTION: Connecticut has NO county jails. CT DOC operates ALL correctional facilities - both for pre-trial detention (equivalent to county jail elsewhere) and for sentenced inmates. This is one of only a handful of states with a fully unified correctional system.
  • CT DOC operates 14 correctional facilities across the state.
  • Pre-trial detainees (those awaiting trial) are held in CT DOC facilities - typically at designated "jail" facilities such as MacDougall-Walker, Cheshire, Garner, and others.
  • Case/charge information: found through the Connecticut Judicial Branch Case Look-Up at jud.ct.gov - typically available within 24-72 hours of arraignment.
  • Sex offender registry: Connecticut Sex Offender Registry at portal.ct.gov/doc/sex-offender-registry-board.
  • Clean Slate Act (PA 21-32): some qualifying convictions are automatically erased - may affect what appears in court records.
  • For visitation, phone calls, sending money, commissary, or mailing to a Connecticut inmate: inmateaid.com has CT DOC facility details including visiting hours, phone carriers, and mailing addresses.
