County-specific variations apply

Each of Alabama's 67 county sheriffs maintains a separate jail roster on their own website. Online roster availability and format vary by county - some have searchable databases, others post PDF lists. If the online roster is unavailable, call the detention center directly. County jail rosters show only current or recently released inmates - not ADOC state prisoners.

Alabama Notes

Important state-specific details

  • County jails hold people before trial and those with sentences of 1 year or less. State prisons hold those with sentences over 1 year.
  • The ADOC database covers only people currently in state custody - recent arrests in county jail will not appear in ADOC.
  • Alabama jail rosters are public records - each sheriff is required to maintain a publicly viewable list.
  • Most county jail rosters show: name, booking date, charges, bond amount, court date, and mugshot.
  • After a person is transferred from county jail to ADOC, they will appear in the ADOC system but may no longer appear on the county roster.
  • For visitation information, phone calls, sending money, or mailing to an inmate: inmateaid.com has county-by-county facility details.
