How to do it
Confirm eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen, Florida resident, at least 18 years old by Election Day (or 17 and pre-registered for primary in which you will turn 18 by general election), not a convicted felon with voting rights not restored, and not adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting
Choose your registration method:
ONLINE: RegistertoVoteFlorida.gov - requires Florida driver's license or Florida ID card number, issue date, and last 4 digits of SSN
BY MAIL: Download Form DS-DE 39 from dos.fl.gov/elections; complete, sign, and mail to your County Supervisor of Elections - must be postmarked or received 29 days before Election Day
IN PERSON: County Supervisor of Elections office; Florida DHSMV driver's license offices; tax collector offices that issue driver's licenses; public libraries; designated voter registration agencies
Submit registration at least 29 days before Election Day
Receive voter registration card by mail confirming enrollment and listing your polling place

Voter registration is administered at the county level by the County Supervisor of Elections (a separately elected constitutional officer in Florida). Each county sets its own early voting locations and extended hours (minimum 8 days). Moving between Florida counties: update registration with your new county's Supervisor of Elections. Important state-specific details
Florida is a CLOSED PRIMARY state - only registered party members (or no-party-affiliation voters in some primaries) may vote in primary elections. To vote in a party primary, must change party affiliation 29 days before the primary.
Florida does NOT have same-day voter registration or automatic voter registration through the DMV (as of 2025).
FELONY CONVICTION: Florida requires completion of all terms of sentence including probation, parole, and financial obligations for voting rights to be restored (Amendment 4, 2018, as modified by legislation). Contact the Florida Commission on Offender Review for restoration status - fcor.state.fl.us.
PRE-REGISTRATION: Available at age 16 - becomes active registration at 18.
PHOTO ID REQUIRED to vote in person in Florida: Florida driver's license, state ID, passport, military ID, student ID, retirement center ID, neighborhood association ID, public assistance ID, veteran health ID, concealed carry license, or employee ID from government entity. If no photo ID: sign an affidavit at the polls.
Polls open 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; anyone in line at closing must be allowed to vote.
