County-specific variations apply

Hawaii's unified DPS correctional system means there is ONE system to search for incarcerated individuals regardless of whether they are pre-trial or sentenced. However, VERY recent arrests (within hours of booking) may only be in the county police department records before transfer to DPS custody. Contact the arresting county police department directly for the most recent arrest information. Hawaii DPS facilities are located primarily on Oahu; some inmates from neighbor islands are housed on Oahu.

Hawaii Notes

Important state-specific details

  • CRITICAL DISTINCTION: Hawaii has NO separate county jails operated by county sheriffs - the state DPS operates ALL correctional facilities including pre-trial detention; this is similar to Connecticut and Delaware and unlike virtually all other states.
  • Hawaii DPS operates several major facilities including Oahu Community Correctional Center (OCCC), Halawa Correctional Facility, Maui Community Correctional Center, Hawaii Community Correctional Center (Big Island), and Kauai Community Correctional Center.
  • Some Hawaii inmates are housed in out-of-state facilities under contract - if not found in DPS search, contact DPS about potential out-of-state placement.
  • Hawaii Sex Offender Registry: pahoehoe.ehawaii.gov/sexoffender.
  • For visitation, phone calls, sending money, commissary, or mailing to a Hawaii inmate: inmateaid.com has Hawaii DPS facility details.
