Important state-specific details

  • NO online voter registration and NO in-person early voting - NH is distinctive in this.
  • EXCUSE-REQUIRED absentee voting; 2025 law added ID requirements for mail ballot applications.
  • ELECTION DAY REGISTRATION: available at polling place - very accessible on Election Day itself.
  • PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP required at registration: NH requires documentary evidence of citizenship.
  • FELONY VOTING RIGHTS: automatically restored immediately upon release from prison - parole and probation do NOT restrict voting rights in NH; only currently incarcerated individuals cannot vote; election-related bribery and intimidation felonies are permanent exceptions.
  • PHOTO ID required to vote at the polls; student IDs no longer accepted as of June 2, 2026; acceptable: driver's license (any state), government-issued photo ID, armed services ID, U.S. passport; without qualifying ID: complete Challenged Voter Affidavit.
  • Undeclared voters can vote in either party's primary; registered party members may only vote in their own party's primary.
  • Polls open 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM in most towns (some open 11:00 AM in small towns - varies).
