Key Assets: Craig County’s seat, Vinita, is genuinely home to one of the most unusual roadside landmarks in the entire country – the Will Rogers Archway, better known as “The Glass House,” a service plaza that literally spans the full width of I-44’s Will Rogers Turnpike; built in 1957 and opened to the public in early 1958, it was the first-ever over-the-road service plaza built in the United States, letting travelers eat their meal or shop for souvenirs while watching traffic pass directly beneath their feet; for decades, the building’s McDonald’s genuinely held the title of “World’s Largest McDonald’s” at over 20,000 square feet, a claim that stood until a Russian McDonald’s took the title in the early 1990s; a $14.6 million renovation completed in 2014 gave the building its current name and now houses a McDonald’s, Subway, Kum & Go convenience store, and a Route 66 gift shop, alongside a small museum honoring Will Rogers, whose statue stands at the building’s west entrance; Vinita also genuinely hosts the World’s Largest Calf Fry Festival every September, a beloved and unapologetically quirky Oklahoma tradition celebrating fried “calf fries” (a cattleman’s delicacy) alongside the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo; downtown Vinita’s historic Clanton’s Café, established in 1927, is reportedly Oklahoma’s oldest family-owned restaurant on Route 66 and has been featured on the Food Network for its chicken-fried steak; the county itself was organized in 1907, named for Granville Craig, a prominent Cherokee farmer who lived in the nearby Bluejacket area, and the land had earlier been assigned as part of the Delaware and Cooweescoowee districts of the Cherokee Nation
Notes: The Will Rogers Archway’s genuine, decades-long claim as the “World’s Largest McDonald’s” – a restaurant literally built over an interstate highway – is one of the most instantly recognizable roadside landmarks found anywhere along Route 66 in this entire project.

About Craig County
Craig County is northeastern Oklahoma’s Will Rogers heritage and turnpike landmark county – a Cherokee Nation community whose connections to Oklahoma’s most beloved personality and an enormous highway McDonald’s define its identity for travelers.
Vinita (the county seat, population ~5,600) honors Will Rogers – the Cherokee humorist who became America’s most beloved entertainer in the 1920s-30s. The annual Will Rogers Rodeo and various Rogers memorials reflect Craig County’s pride in its connection to Oklahoma’s most famous citizen.
The McDonald’s at the Vinita Travel Plaza – straddling Interstate 44 over the highway – is frequently cited as the world’s largest McDonald’s, though the designation is contested. It is unquestionably one of the most architecturally unusual fast food restaurants in America.

Probate & Estate
Losing someone and having to deal with courts and paperwork at the same time is hard. This section won’t make that easier, but it should tell you what to expect, what it costs, and where to go – so at least you’re not walking in blind.
Where to go
Craig County District Court 210 West Delaware Street, Suite 201, Vinita, OK 74301 (918) 256-6451 Craig County is in northeastern Oklahoma, seated in Vinita.
Step 1: figure out which path applies
Oklahoma has NOT adopted the Uniform Probate Code, maintaining its own probate statutes under Title 58 of the Oklahoma Statutes. Probate cases are handled by the District Court in each of Oklahoma’s 77 counties.
Small Estate Affidavit (58 O.S. § 393) – available when the total value of probate personal property (not counting real estate) is $50,000 or less. At least 10 days must have passed since death. This process skips court entirely: the affidavit is signed, notarized, and presented directly to whoever holds the asset (a bank, for example), along with a certified death certificate. Real estate can never be transferred this way – even a small estate with real property still needs some form of court proceeding.
Summary Administration – available when the total probate estate does not exceed $200,000, or when the decedent has been dead more than 5 years, or lived outside Oklahoma. This is an abbreviated form of probate – still court-supervised, but faster and less expensive than full administration.
Regular (Full) Administration – the standard court-supervised process, required for larger or more complex estates, or wherever real property is involved and the shortcuts above don’t apply. A personal representative (executor or administrator) is formally appointed by the court.
Step 2: filing for administration
A Petition for Probate is filed in the District Court of the county where the decedent resided; if there’s a will, the original is filed with the petition.
The court sets a hearing date and requires notice be given to heirs and interested parties.
The court appoints a personal representative (executor if named in a will, administrator if intestate) and issues Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration.
Creditors are notified; claims against the estate must be presented within the statutory period.
The personal representative inventories assets, pays valid debts and taxes, and distributes what remains according to the will or Oklahoma’s intestacy laws.
The estate is closed once a final accounting is filed and approved by the court.
What it costs
Filing fees vary by county – check with Craig County directly for current fees.
Oklahoma has a statutory attorney fee schedule for probate, which provides more predictability than states without one.
No state estate tax, no state inheritance tax. Only the federal estate tax could apply, and only to very large estates.
