About Walton County
Walton County’s 30A corridor – the scenic highway running between Inlet Beach and Miramar Beach along the Gulf’s edge – is one of the most economically significant stretches of beachfront real estate in the Florida Panhandle. The planned communities of Seaside (the original New Urbanist development that inspired “The Truman Show”), Rosemary Beach, WaterColor, WaterSound, and Alys Beach have collectively created a resort landscape of extraordinary density and property values, where vacation rental income and second-home appreciation have made Walton County’s coastal properties among the most expensive in the Florida Panhandle.
DeFuniak Springs, the county seat, is a completely different Florida – an inland north Florida Panhandle city with one of the most complete Victorian neighborhoods in Florida, centered on Chautauqua Lake, and an entirely separate economic and cultural character from the coastal resort corridor an hour to the south. The Emerald Coast Regional Medical Center serves the county’s healthcare needs.
