Okemah's Woody Guthrie birthplace - from Okemah's distinction as the birthplace of Woody Guthrie (Woodrow Wilson Guthrie - born July 14, 1912 in Okemah - became the most influential folk musician in American history, writing "This Land Is Your Land," "So Long It's Been Good to Know Yuh," and hundreds of other songs that defined American folk music and directly inspired Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, and generations of singer-songwriters) to the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival (held each July in Okemah, drawing folk musicians and Guthrie devotees from across the country to celebrate the Dust Bowl Troubadour's legacy) and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation's presence throughout the county.
